It is also known as the Order of the Dancing Dervishes, the fact of this rotation for hours during ceremonies, spiritualizing the mind and the pursuit of communion with God. This ceremony begins with a ritual prayers and recitations – Dhikr – to remember and recall God, and continues with the Sema. Each participant or semazem appears covered by a black hood that will be discovered during the ceremony as a metaphor for being spiritually born to the truth. Below, dressed in a white robe, long and round, a shroud symbolizing the ego, whose gravestone is represented by the hat. The purpose of clothing is to express an absolute renunciation of the “ego”.
